What is it ?

The ICOPE (Integrated Care for Older People) program is a dependency prevention program developed by the WHO. This five-step program aims to reduce the number of dependent people worldwide by 15 million by 2025, or 150 000 in France.

Screening

The screening process uses a few simple questions and tests to assess, in about ten minutes, the six functions essential to maintain independence and to identify any abnormalities that need to be addressed. It is recommended that this screening is repeated every six months.

This pathway is based on the regular monitoring of 6 essential functions for healthy aging:

For whom ?

The ICOPE program is aimed at all seniors who are independent in their daily activities. This programme focuses on prevention and is intended for people aged 60 years and over.

By whom ?

All stakeholders in the medical-social, medical and voluntary sectors are mobilised to roll out the ICOPE program and make it accessible on a daily basis. Seniors can assess themselves, thereby taking control of their own health. Following this step, if an anomaly is detected, an in-depth assessment is offered by a trained healthcare professional.

How ?

The ICOPE program is based on a paradigm shift: moving from a curative to a preventive care model. In order to facilitate the monitoring of senior citizens, ICOPE uses digital medicine and is based on participatory medicine, in which senior citizens take an active role in their own health.

The approach is based on three principles :

  • Monitoring capacities essential to maintaining independence: nutrition, mobility, cognition, psychological state, vision and hearing.
  • Integrated care, taking into account: capacities (physical and mental), associated conditions, social/geographical/personal environment.
  • The use of local resources.

Healthcare professionals have three tools available to them free of charge :

These three tools can be accessed with a single account (username and password).

ICOPE web is only available for self-assessment. Please contact us, if you are interested in developing other tools in your country.
